Fall Fashion Ads are Whimsical, Artistic October 15, 2009

When I think of fall I think of leaves turning gold, cool breezes, cool colored pea coats and for some reason the artist in me really comes alive. Now I am no painter, I am ok at photography and let’s just say that my drawing skills are at the 3rd grade level, which may be an exaggeration. However, I do know that I love to look at art. My favorite about the Fall season is the artistic elements that help fall fashion ads come alive.

    Here are a few of my favorite ads that have been appearing in the fashion mags:

Michelangelo di Battista, photographer of these Siri is Pure Gold ads, using model Siri Tollerod. These ads have a renaissance look to them, with the edgy fashion appeal needed to show off the clothing. Love it!

 

This is for a Marc Jacobs spring and summer campaign, however, it has been appearing in fall magazines. I do think this gives more of a fall look than a summer look.

Out of all the ads Louboutin did utilzing shoes, this has to be my favorite! I love the dark element of the painting that is mixed with the edgy heel.

Here Christian Louboutin used shoes to be a part of baroque art. Baroque is the perfect era to remind someone of Fall.

Thrift stores have perfect costumes October 10, 2009

Yesterday I would have to say was the most successful day I’ve had in a really long time. A friend and I were on a mission to find out Halloween costumes, with out getting a cliche costume from the store. I have decided to go as a 60′s flight attendant, with a mod almost Jackie Kennedy look. My friend, after going through every costume we could think of that is awesome, we stumbled upon the Willy Wonka idea. Anywho, we began our search at some thrift stores and came out VERY successful! Then we decided to top our outfits off by going to some of our favorite, inexpensive stores. Check out what we found!

 This dress was so perfect that we had to get it! We found it at a thrift store for only $10, it still had the original tags on it and was purchased for $130! What a steal! Oh- and you can’t tell me that this dress doesn’t scream flight attendant!

 

 We found these shoes at Charolette Rousse and luckily they were having a buy one pair, get the second for $10 deal, so of course we immediately jumped on that! These shoes are so cute, but also perfect for the dress!

 

                                                   

 These earings have a classic look to them and the bracelet has a retro feel. Both of them go with the dress and the theme very well! All that’s left is the perfect hair style and of course, the flight attendant hat! This outfit was a total of $32, the most expensive part being the shoes. But of course, they can be worn again!

 

 

Willy Wonka was a lot of fun to shop for. We mixed the colors that he wore in the movie, and made it cute for a girl.

 First we started with the awesome Wonka hat

 Then we headed to Plato’s Closet where she found this perfect dark green jacket, that instead of being long like Wonka’s was, it is a waist coat that is perfect for the girly version.  Also, if you’ll notice the sparkley scarf inside of the coat- instead of a bow tie like he wore, we went to Hobby Lobby and purchased some fabric to make a flashy scarf.

 

 Then we went to Forever 21 where we found the perfect pair of purple pants, that match the Wonka Hat! Now all she has to do is play with her make up, do some funky curls under her hat and get some pointed boots. Oh- and she will wear a button down white shirt with long sleeves that way they stick out under the coat. Some fun add-ons include lollipops with cool designs sticking out of her coat pockets.

This entire outfit was under $30, most of which can be found in your own closet!

 

So, instead of going out and getting a costume doesn’t have to be a trip to your halloween shop, start digging around in your local consignment or thrift stores. You can find some amazing things!

Vampires making their comeback October 6, 2009

With all the movie and TV buzz that surrounds Vampires and all their mystery, it’s no wonder that one of the top costumes of 2009. So how do you complete the Vampire costume for this year with out traveling to your local costume shop? Well it depends, are we being sexy or scary? Let’s go with sexy first.

What you need:  A white corset or a tight white tank top.

 

 

 

 

A black vest that can be found at Target or even WalMart for less thank $15

 

 

 

A black skirt that is fitting, such as this black tweed skirt from Forever 21 is only 8.50!

 

 

 

Next you need to find a great pair of shoes! Forever 21 also has a bunch of great finds from knee high boots to ankly boots for under $35

 Great thing about all of these items is they are in style and can be worn again and again!

 

 

Now it’s time to think accessories!

Leggings with patterns are perfect for giving off that mysterious and sexy look- especially paired with your boots! Or get crazy and get tights with a dark red pattern!

 

 

 

 

Bunch a scarf around your neck and tuck into your vest- if you find one to that matches your tights that’s even better!

 

 

 

Now with your hair and makeup- that is how you tie the entire outfit together! Consider these hairstyles:

 

 

 

 

 

Also- doing a quick smoky eye with a nice red lip is not only stylish but very Vampirish

Halloween Costumes channeling the 50′s October 5, 2009

Halloween is soon here and the big question for all those adults out there is “what to be for Halloween?” A big costume that has been popular in the past- but even more so this year, is the sexy 50′s pin-up girl costume. And it’s easy to achieve with out spending a lot of money! Here are some classic looks that you can achieve with using what’s already in your closet or with a good find at the DAV!

 

 

 

 

 

Channel some of these looks before going to your regular costume shop. You can be your own Pin up doll with out having to spend a ton of money to look like everyone else! All you have to do is be creative. It’s as simple as finding a pencil skirt or short shorts that go over your belly button and a corset or top that you can accent with a big belt! Make sure you get your heels out, because that ties the outfit all together and of course the hair! Curl and pin up and you’re good to go! Over the next few days we are going to be showing you how you can achieve these hair styles using the Semplfi Hair System!

I’ve been Semplified September 28, 2009

Hey guys! It’s Jessica again! Just a recap: My hair- dry, frizzy, curly and uncontrollable. I tried every product under the sun that was ‘guranteed’ to work for me. Then I was told about the Semplifi Hair System, which I have been using for a couple of weeks now.

My hair feels amazing and I am truly impressed with the product. At work, my braid is neat and pretty, my curls are loose and shiny and my frizz is completely gone! Anyone who has the same issue as I had- you need to look into this product some more!

 

 

 

With the Semplifi Hair System, you can personalize it to your own hair need. So here is how I use the product:

• 3 pumps of the Daily Renew Shampoo
• 4 pumps of the Daily Plus conditioner + 3 pumps of Volume Plus serum
• After showering, I spray the Style Plus all over my hair and comb through
• Then I mix 1 pump of Volume Plus with 2 pumps of Moisture Plus and run my fingers through my hair.

I like to air dry my hair, so by using mixing the Volume and Moisture Plus together, my curls become loose, beautiful and frizz free.

All my goals have been met with Semplifi. My hair is controllable and has moisture without frizz. I also love how clean my hair always feels. I can say that I am satisfied with this product! I can even put my hair in one of my favorite clips- and it doesn’t look messy!

It’s I Do for Khloe Kardashian September 28, 2009

Ok, so we had to jump on the boat and talk about the biggest celebrity moment of the last two weeks- Khloe Kardashian marrying Lamar Oden. For as cautious as Khloe is with men, it has surprised most people that she was to wed so quickly. Regardless- we’re happy for her! Pictures of her wedding have not yet been released because she allowed the pics to go to the highest bidder- OK magazine. But here’s the pics we were able to find with the help of a few courtesy photogs:

Celebrity of the week: Amanda Seyfried September 21, 2009

Ok, so who’s hott right now? Ya, Amanda Seyfriend. She was the “dumb blonde” in ‘Mean Girls’, the love struck daughter trying to find her dad in ‘Mama Mia’ and finally the girl who battles Megan Fox in ‘Jennifer’s Body.’ This isn’t the only reason why we love her though. She has eyes that you can dive into and a face that is so different than her fellow Hollywood stars that it is hard not to love her!

Here are our favorite looks of her:                    

We love how her eyes pop out and her hair balances the playful pattern on her dress. So cute!

Here she is showing a casual look while at a shopping promotion for Jennifer’s Body. Fitted jackets are totally in right now and we love how she chose to pair it with a pair of long shorts and heels. Although casual, it’s still classy!

And here it is truly all about excellence and style at the Academy Awards. Although red is usually not a good choice against the red carpet she needs to walk on, how could you name this a bad choice when it accents her figure and her hair so well! The classic red lip is also a great choice. She is channeling early red carpet looks with this outfit!

Static: It doesn’t come from your favorite sweater September 16, 2009

The fall season, means great fall fashions. Unfortunately, most of those fashions; cardigans, sweaters and long sleeved shirts, aren’t compatible with battling static. Did you know that static doesn’t actually come from your favorite sweater? Al Melchiorre, owner of de’-al salon in Wichita, Kan. and co-creator of the Semplifi Hair System is here to tell you why!

Q: Why is it that I battle with static, especially in the fall and winter months?

Al: The elements know when to attack and around winter you hair is under attack because of the constant battle between cold weather and heating systems. When you are outside you are exposed to cool air that has some moisture in it, when you walk inside your heated home then all the moisture is sucked out of the air. Therefore, your hair reacts with static.

Another reason this happens is from the common battle between product and environment. Products build on top of your hair and the environment is still sneaking into the cuticle. Therefore you need a product that will penetrate the cuticle. Of course I mean the  Semplifi Hair System.

How to use: Shampoo like normal. Then with the Daily Plus Conditioner, add a couple pumps of Volume Plus and lather together. That will give your hair volume and moisture but no static. After showering apply the Style Plus spray just to help maintain frizz.

These products working together in tandem will penetrate the cuticle, fill it and block any other elements from penetrating. In return you can go from cold to hot environments as often as you please! Really exciting news for all those people who haven’t tried Semplifi or aren’t really sure how it works- we are beginning to film a series of videos to teach you how to use the product for your specific hair type!
