Thrift stores have perfect costumes October 10, 2009

Yesterday I would have to say was the most successful day I’ve had in a really long time. A friend and I were on a mission to find out Halloween costumes, with out getting a cliche costume from the store. I have decided to go as a 60’s flight attendant, with a mod almost Jackie Kennedy look. My friend, after going through every costume we could think of that is awesome, we stumbled upon the Willy Wonka idea. Anywho, we began our search at some thrift stores and came out VERY successful! Then we decided to top our outfits off by going to some of our favorite, inexpensive stores. Check out what we found!

DSC02912 This dress was so perfect that we had to get it! We found it at a thrift store for only $10, it still had the original tags on it and was purchased for $130! What a steal! Oh- and you can’t tell me that this dress doesn’t scream flight attendant!

DSC02913 We found these shoes at Charolette Rousse and luckily they were having a buy one pair, get the second for $10 deal, so of course we immediately jumped on that! These shoes are so cute, but also perfect for the dress!

These earings have a classic look to them and the bracelet has a retro feel. Both of them go with the dress and the theme very well! All that’s left is the perfect hair style and of course, the flight attendant hat! This outfit was a total of $32, the most expensive part being the shoes. But of course, they can be worn again!

Willy Wonka was a lot of fun to shop for. We mixed the colors that he wore in the movie, and made it cute for a girl.

DSC02923 First we started with the awesome Wonka hat

DSC02921(1) Then we headed to Plato’s Closet where she found this perfect dark green jacket, that instead of being long like Wonka’s was, it is a waist coat that is perfect for the girly version.  Also, if you’ll notice the sparkley scarf inside of the coat- instead of a bow tie like he wore, we went to Hobby Lobby and purchased some fabric to make a flashy scarf.

Then we went to Forever 21 where we found the perfect pair of purple pants, that match the Wonka Hat! Now all she has to do is play with her make up, do some funky curls under her hat and get some pointed boots. Oh- and she will wear a button down white shirt with long sleeves that way they stick out under the coat. Some fun add-ons include lollipops with cool designs sticking out of her coat pockets.

This entire outfit was under $30, most of which can be found in your own closet!

So, instead of going out and getting a costume doesn’t have to be a trip to your halloween shop, start digging around in your local consignment or thrift stores. You can find some amazing things!

Pregnant hits the runway August 27, 2009

Tonight on Project Runway’s latest episode featured clothing for a pregnant Rebecca Romijn.

Like last week, Mitchell battled with the outfit, overplanning on a small time frame. Ra’mon stressed out about his critique from the last episode that it almost hindered his thought process and Malvin was trying to make a birds nest for Rebecca’s belly.

In the end most of the outfits looked great. Very playful, but not for a pregnant woman. Ra’mon’s dress really accented the curves, in a bad way. Louise actually put thought into the fact that as one goes through a pregnancy, the body changes, which I liked. My favorite however had to be Shirin’s dress. It was very chic and comfortable looking, which fits in with the style she wanted.

After all was said and done it was my pick, Shirina who won the challenge and Malvin was elminated.

Do you think that Malvin should have been eliminated over Mitchell, even though Mitchell was in the bottom two for the second time? Let me know your thoughts and share your favorite looks!

All of the magazines are saying it- even my local newspaper is talking about it. Fall fashions! Here are a few items that you may want to consider to make the perfect outfit that is in this season.

1. A trimmed 60’s inspired minidress, especially metallic or with metallic decor!
2. A white shirt- button up, long sleeved, quarter sleeved, with frills or not… you need one.
3. A fall jacket- Camel coat, toggle or robe; all of these options need to be below the waist line.
4.Menswear trouser- perfect for any night out, day at the office or casual wear to the coffee shop. Also pairs well with that white shirt we spoke of a moment ago!
5. The over the knee boot. Pair one with any draped skirt, Minidress or trouser shorts for a great look!
6. A day clutch to keep your small needs! Find one that either matches a majority of your outfits, or find a few that can be mixed and matched.
7. The buckle boot: over the ankle boots with any length of heel is perfect to pair with those short skirts and dresses.

These are a few looks that are in this season. You can pair any of these to channel in your favorite era… especially the 60’s!

Who are you wearing this fall? Let me know!

First Episode Steamy! August 20, 2009

The first episode was just as intense as ever. With the mission to create a runway look it was up to the designers to also be innovative.

Christopher was the winner with his version of an MTV Movie Awards dress. It was chic- punk rocker or as Michael Khors put it “Two words you never put together, cute and edgy.”

The loser sadly was Ari, who used her meditative and creative ways to come up with an outfit that might have worked anywhere but the red carpet. I really did enjoy her creative flow and I think her outfit and ideas could appeal to a certain client- but for something more dance party or dinner with friends.

While I did like Christopher’s dress, there were a couple of others that I liked even more! Gordana’s dress was beautiful! I loved the way that it flowed and even more I loved the design she put into it. I also really loved Shirin’s dress. The detail that she put into the corset section of the dress was amazing.

Overall it was good night for Project Runway. Who was your favorite designer?
